2nd Annual Charter Day Ancestral Tribute

Thursday, February 7 | 2pm | William & Mary in Partnership with the Lemon Project

The Black Faculty & Staff Forum invite you to join us at the Hearth Memorial to the Enslaved on our 332nd Charter Day. We will call the known names of those enslaved by William & Mary, make libations and give thanks for all whose presence and labor make our ongoing work and success possible, and reaffirm our commitment to building on their legacy. To foster community across campus through this event, we ask attendees and supporters to dress in winter white.
Community Quilting Bee
Sunday, February 16 | 2:30pm - 4:30pm | Belle Grove

Come learn about memorial quilts that will honor the 270 individuals enslaved at Belle Grove from the 1780s to the 1860s. Community members stitched the name and birthdate of each person on fabric. Textile artist Carole Gary Staples of Ohio arranged the blocks into family trees and surrounded each family with African batik fabrics. Local quilt expert Pam Pampe assembled the quilt and prepared it for hand quilting. Now, the community is invited to participate.
